First off. Completely remove any doubt you have about you or you photography. I've told you before that you're an amazing photographer, i'm i'm sure the 2,000 people that watch you think so too. You have a great eye for seeing unique moments in photography, and for capturing these with vivid life. As for your pets, it's clear in your shots how much them mean to you, and you really do do them justice. So forget all this about feeling bad. I understand you may be frustrated, but trust me, you're a brilliant photographer, and will only continue to get better.
As for the critique. I really like this shot. The composition is great, with a good balance of gecko to leaf. I love how you made use of the two shades of green set up by your lighting, and really highlights the precarious pose that Leo's got himself into. I like how you caught him with his hands wrapped around the leaf too. Focus is great, though may be going slightly soft on the tip of the nose. I like the bokeh, and the almost studio like background that the leaf has become. It's a shame he isn't fired, but his colours are rather nice, with a nice contrast between them and the green backdrop. Once again his eye is amazing, with great focus and depth, and it really does show his personality.
I'm glad you like this shot, because it's really nicely done. What I really like about your shots of Leo is that they tell a story. They show how he's grown, how his personality has developed and how he's become the rather amazing creature you have now
*snugs* Sorry to hear you're not in a happy photography place, anything I can do to help? Drag you around Whipsnade or something. ^.^ But this shot is beautiful, Leo is so pretty, and the leaf he's on makes the perfect background.

Thanks Jo, I think it's the crappy weather and stuff.. Means I haven't been able to take many photos, there hasn't even been any snow!
We definitely need to go out and shoot more! At least we have Marwell this month, when does the BWC open again? You have to come to Whipsande some time too, I love it there!
Oh yeah, the weather's not been fun lately. At least if there was snow then all this cold would be worth it!
Yes yes! I've been in a photography funk for too long myself, I need to get out there and take more photos for sure. I'm actually hoping I'll get more excited about photography when I get my new camera. I'm planning on talking to my Dad about money today, so long as he's in a good mood of course. ^.^ There are a few photo days I want to go on with Wild Arena but I don't really see the point in doing so until I have my new camera, so I've decided to get my ass in gear and see if I can't order it soon!
Wild Arena do a macro half day session. It’s more expensive then Angi, and a half day rather then a full day (the full day is /really/ expensive!) but it look like a good day, and as Angi isn't going to be doing any marco for a while it's something I'm really thinking of doing. [link] And then they do a day at Dartmoor, which focuses on Jags, Bears & Tigers. I really want a good shot of a jaguar! They’re such stunning cats, and apparently the one there isn’t anywhere near as shy as most of them are. It seems like a really interesting place to go to. [link] I don't know if you'd be interested in either of those at all. The macro looks like a good place, I think another macro day would be awesome to do together. Or if you’re interested in any of the other days they or photographers on safari do, let me know!
BWC will be open in the Feb half term, and I'd really like to go because they said on the keeper's blog that it's the last time for a while they'll be doing the doormice talks, and I really want to see a doormouse!! Whipsande for sure. Ha, I’m getting all excited just thinking about all the different places we could go and take photos.

Will do. Talked to Dad and he's going to look into the money side of things soon. You should have seen his face when I told him how much the 7D+lenes would cost, lol! Might turn out that model's a bit expensive, but that's ok, I don't mind getting a different body, the lens is more important anyway. Plus anything's going to be a big step up from my 350D.
I contacted Angi in November and she said she's not been feeling well enough to do photos days lately, and that she already has some she's promised to people to do when she's feeling better (including a one on one she promised me after I didn't get her message in time and paid for the hotel & everything). I honestly think it'll be a long time before Angi's up for it again & I don't know about you, but I have a macro photo itch that needs scratching.
I always stay at a premier inn the night before a photo day so that I don't put a lot of my energy into travelling on the day and then find myself tiered when it's actually photography time. I'm sure if you wanted Mum could drive us both up the day before and you can stay overnight with us at the hotel. It’s certainly worth looking into if the jags are able to be photographed at WHF. Although I must admit I'm rather keen to go somewhere new myself, and I find I get my ass in gear more on a proper photography day then if I’m going around a zoo as a normal guest. But it’s completely up to you, I’m perfectly happy going on my own. I’d also love to go back to the WHF with my new camera, I was just reading on photographers on safari that they have loads of new cats to photograph, a male white lion, tiger cubs born in august last year, a chinese leopard, rusty spotted cats & fishing cats, which all sound stunning! Plus they have a new serval there too!
I know! We went to the BWC a fair bit but apart from that we didn’t do much at all. Right, new years resolution, go more photography friendly animal collections with Alannah. I honestly think the focusing issue was getting me down last year, hopefully a new camera will be enough to get me excited about photography again.

Yes, Angi said she's still not feeling up to it. You could always come round and meet my monsters if you wanted?
WHF prices seem to have gone up quite a bit though Steven was talking about going to the Cat Survival Trust, I'd quite like that, I think they've got a jaguar there too? Well Steven got hit by one there lol.
I'm 98.99& sure it was down to the camera lol. So with your amazingly fast new 7D, you'll do greattttt
Yes, I really want to meet your three. And I just looked at the wild arena website again and the price has gone back down for the macro half day to £99, you also get it free if you become a member, which costs £99 but then you get 10% off any other dates you book, so it's worth doing if you want to do the experience session anyway. I'm hopefully going to be going to Woburn on the 9th (which is a Thursday, so I'm assuming you have collage?) with Wild Arena, which sounds really fun! They have black bears there.
Do you know when half term is? We need to get to the BWC over half term.
WHF prices are £145 with both Photographers on Safari & Wild Arena, although £130 if you're a Wild Arena member. So, yeah, a fair bit more expensive then the CST at £89, although WHF has a much bigger range of cats now. I didn't think you could get photos of the jag at the CST, at least we couldn't when we went. Count me in for CST, depending on when you want to go of course. There are loads of places I want to go to with my 7D. Having taken over a year off from photo days I'm dieing to get back out there.
We also need to go to Whipsnade sometime soon. So many places! I'm getting myself all excited, lol! And don't worry if you're not interested in half these places, I only want to go back to most of them because of the 7D, I'm not expecting you to come with me to every one if you don't want to. I mean, we have enough going on with the BWC, Whipsnade & our own macro sessions. ^^
Yeah, it looks like the focusing issue was the camera, things are working great with the 7D.

I am interested in the macro day, but I guess they wont be as helpful as Angi? What is the group size?
Yes, but £150 is a LOT. Its a shame the price has gone up such a crazy amount. When we went they said they didn't have jaguars, but they do because Steven got the shot of the jaguar hitting him I think if we go with the guy Steven knows its cheaper then £90 too, I think he said it was about £60 but I can't remember 100%
